Clemmie’s War

How did ten-year-old Clemmie Beaumont die?

That was the question on everyone’s lips when Clemmie woke with amnesia at Chalk House, an enchanting home for dead children. However, her arrival set off a chain of events which threatened the lives of the people and creatures she met. So, when her memory returned, she hatched a plan to wage war on those who killed her. Yet, one thing stopped her.

Time itself.

Follow Clemmie as she travelled seventy-five years in the past to stop a time-rift. Did she summon the courage to face her nemesis? And most importantly, did she make it back home in time for lunch?

Only time, and toffees, will tell.

Here is an excerpt:

Clemmie launched herself forwards. She held up her hands to cover her face as the tree crashed down inches from where she fell. Meanwhile, needle-like branches cut like knives into her skin. And when she wiped her face, blood and dirt smeared all over her hand.

A short while later, she struggled to her feet, although her legs shook, and her heart raced at a million trillion miles an hour. Then a hedgehog scampered in front of her path. Just like her, it was frightened and scared. She asked herself, not for the first time, whether she had done the right thing? Should she have left the safety of the house? And each time, she came back with the same answer. Yes! Yes! YES!

The fallen trunk blocked her way, so she braced herself then vaulted over the top. On the other side, she landed with a squelch. Her arms flailed, and her feet skidded as she tried to regain her balance, but it was much too late. Down she went. Straight onto her bottom. The force of her landing sent a splatter of muck all over her face and clothes.

‘Pffft!’ she spat grit from her mouth.
